Bealeton and Warrenton Exhaust System Repair

Your vehicle’s exhaust system may look like a mundane set of rusty pipes but it actually serves two very important functions.  One to the health of your occupants and another to the health of the engine.

Your vehicle’s engine produces combustion byproducts in the form of water vapor and combustion gasses.  Water vapor inside the system along with moisture and road salts outside can lead to corrosion of your exhaust pipes.  This corrosion leads to holes in the system.  Combustion gasses are harmful to breathe so it’s of the utmost importance that the exhaust be air tight from the engine all the way to the rear of the vehicle.  Leaks in the exhaust can let the harmful gasses seep into the passenger compartment of the vehicle where the occupants can breathe them.  Breathing exhaust fumes can lead to adverse health effects, loss of consciousness, and worse. A leaking exhaust is more than just a noise nuisance.

The exhaust also serves as the location for the catalytic converter and several engine sensors.  These sensors are used to help the computer calculate how much fuel your engine needs.  Leaks in the exhaust can skew these numbers interfering with proper fuel control.  This can result in poor fuel economy, increased engine wear, and failure of the catalytic converter.
